The LibreTexts mission is to unite students, faculty and scholars in a cooperative effort to develop an easy-to-use online platform for the construction, customization, and dissemination of OER content to reduce the burdens of unreasonable textbook costs to our students and society. The LibreTexts project is a multi-institutional collaborative venture to develop the next generation of openaccess texts to improve postsecondary education at all levels of higher learning by developing an Open Access Resource environment. The project currently consists of 14 independently operating and interconnected libraries that are constantly being optimized by students, faculty, and outside experts to supplant conventional paper-based books. These free textbook alternatives are organized within a central environment that is both vertically (from advance to basic level) and horizontally (across different fields) integrated.

¡Qué viva la música! Repaso de conversación en español, or Long Live Music! Spanish Conversational Review is an open textbook intended for conversational review, typically a fourth-semester Spanish class. The textbook is organized around nine different songs that provide students opportunities to practice, aurally and orally, as well as in writing, the main communicative goals and key grammatical structures learned in previous classes. It can also be used in similar high school classes.

Este es un texto abierto, es decir, de uso gratuito en la red informática mundial, para conversación en español usando letras y videos de canciones, y actividades en clase relacionadas con los mismos. Contiene nueve metas de comunicación y estructuras gramaticales clave que ayudan a alcanzar estas metas.

Soy pionera en la enseñanza del español con música, y tengo libros y artículos dedicados a este atractivo método pedagógico. Mi primer artículo sobre el tema fue publicado en 2001 y fue el resultado de varios años de experiencia. También he utilizado en mis clases otros materiales realia como refranes y proverbios, y telenovelas.

El uso de la música para la adquisición de un segundo idioma ha sido reconocido en la literatura sobre el tema como un método eficaz, entre otras razones porque: Crea un ambiente que desarrolla en los/las estudiantes una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje del idioma; proporciona a los/las estudiantes una manera fácil de memorizar el idioma; ayuda en el desarrollo de habilidades de escuchar y hablar; porque la experiencia de aprender gramática no es dolorosa sino divertida; por la riqueza cultural que se encuentra en las canciones, y porque intensifica el entusiasmo de los/las estudiantes por el análisis de la poesía. Cantar las canciones, una actividad placentera para los/las estudiantes, transfiere el placer al aprendizaje del idioma, refuerza las habilidades de escuchar y hablar, y proporciona elementos rítmicos y cinestésicos a la producción del idioma (Corrales-Martin, 2001).
